Are your teens dressing too provacatively?

Russell Hyken, Ed.S, M.A., LPC, NCC, CEP, Educational Diagnostician, Certified Educational / Therapeutic Placement Specialis

Today's teens live in a fast-paced society and receive mixed media messages regarding acceptable attire. While your teen can find appropriately dressed girls on the Disney Channel, these same starlets are frequently photographed in skin tight clothes in their daily lives and on the red carpet.

So, how can you help your teen daughter select acceptable attire while still allowing her to express herself?

  • Start the conversation light; talk about fashion and even show-off your own flair for fashion in your high school yearbook.
  • Have her take a look in the mirror – ask if her style reflects her personality and conveys the right perception?
  • Shop-therapy: Hit the stores together for a day of bonding and shopping for fun, hip clothes that are appropriate.
